Empowering Communities Through Early Detection: Swasthyarekha’s Bholagadia Initiative
Preventive healthcare becomes more accessible when screening services are brought directly to local communities. On 1 September 2026, Swasthyarekha conducted its 16th community health screening camp at the Bholagadia Weaving Centre, Khunta Block, Mayurbhanj, Odisha, in association with Yuva Vikash Foundation.
The camp focused on NCD assessment, oral cancer screening, and breast cancer screening, providing community members a chance to access preventive healthcare services in a familiar and convenient setting.

A Complete Health Check Begins with NCD Screening
The screening process started with NCD assessments for all 30 participants, during which the health team evaluated key health indicators linked to common non-communicable diseases. Including NCD screening alongside cancer screening helped provide a more comprehensive preventive healthcare assessment and encouraged participants to understand the importance of regular health monitoring.
Oral Screening: 30 Examined, No Suspected Cases Identified
Oral health screening was an important component of the camp. All 30 participants underwent oral visual observation, allowing the screening team to examine the oral cavity for visible changes or abnormalities.
Among the participants, 2 were additionally screened with the Oral Scan device, which provided technology-assisted support for the screening process. The screening identified no suspected oral cases. Participants were encouraged to maintain good oral hygiene and to remain aware of any changes or abnormalities that may require medical attention.
Breast Screening: 28 Clinical Examinations, No Suspected Cases
Breast health screening was also conducted as part of the camp. A total of 28 women underwent Clinical Breast Examination (CBE).
Of these, 22 participants were additionally screened using the BR Scan device, providing additional technology-assisted assessment.
The screening identified no suspected breast cases. Participants were encouraged to continue regular breast health monitoring and seek medical advice if they notice any concerning changes.
Technology Supporting Community-Based Screening
Devices such as Oral Scan and BR Scan support Swasthyarekha’s approach of bringing technology-assisted screening closer to communities.
At Bholagadia, these tools were used alongside clinical examination and visual observation to aid a structured screening process. Technology-supported screening enhances professional assessment and can help identify individuals who might need additional evaluation.
Most importantly, screening is an important step in preventive healthcare, and participants should continue regular health monitoring and seek appropriate medical advice whenever required.
Why Community Screening Matters
The Bholagadia camp demonstrates how preventive healthcare can reach communities in familiar local settings. Conducting the camp at the Bholagadia Weaving Center provided residents with convenient access to NCD assessment and cancer screening services.
For the 30 participants who attended the camp, the programme provided an opportunity to undergo preventive health screening without needing to begin the process with a hospital visit.
The absence of suspected oral and breast cases also highlights the value of regular screening and health awareness in promoting preventive healthcare.
From Screening to Continued Health Awareness
Screening is not only about identifying suspected cases. It also provides an opportunity to educate participants about healthy lifestyle practices, regular health check-ups and the importance of early detection.
Participants were encouraged to remain aware of their health, continue regular screening and seek medical advice whenever they notice concerning symptoms or changes.
Swasthyarekha seeks to foster a culture were preventive screening is a routine aspect of healthcare, not just something people turn to after symptoms emerge.
Taking Early Detection Across Communities
From urban neighbourhoods to rural and community-based locations, Swasthyarekha continues to take preventive health services closer to the people.
The Bholagadia community screening camp was conducted in association with Yuva Vikash Foundation, with active participation from the local community. Each screening contributes to the broader goal of raising awareness, encouraging timely medical attention, and making early detection more accessible as part of everyday healthcare.
Early Detection. Better Care. Healthier Communities.
